Wrapping up the course

Final Paper and Portfolio

The end is neigh! We've made it through the semester and your final projects are about to wrap up. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you pull the final bits together.

Reminders About Dates:
  • Today in class we will do a peer review of a draft of your final paper.
  • If you wish, I will also provide some initial feedback on your collectively authored introductions.
  • The final version of these introductions is due on Thursday, May 6th before Midnight on Canvas.
    • NOTE--you don't all have to submit this. One person from the group can either post this on the Canvas site, or, email it to me ([email protected]) and/or Dr. McDuie-Ra ([email protected][email protected]u).
  • The final version of your individually authored final projects is due as part of your collective portfolios next Monday, May 10, before Midnight on Canvas.
  • I will grade and post your final projects on this site by May 17

What will I be looking for in your final essays?
There should be no surprises here. I'm not looking for anything beyond what we have talked about and what was layed out in the assignment. Specifically, I'll be reading for:
  • How your final essay relates to the theme of your group and how the paper and that theme reflect a relationship between landscape and power
  • How you use actual evidence from your observation to build an argument and support your case (in other words, I want to see how you demonstrate something about the relationship between landscape and power using writing and evidence)
  • How well written and clear your piece is

What goes into the final portfolios?
The portfolios represent the sum of all of the writing you have done in class this semester. To create your portfolio, add all of following writings together in a single document (docx or pdf preferred). Make sure that each assignment is on a separate page (i.e., create page breaks between each of the following documents so it is easy for me to see where one assignment ends and the next begins):
  • A Cover Page with a table of contents
  • Your Blanton Assignment draft (the initial version you brought to class for your peer review)
  • Your Blanton Assignment revision based on peer review (the version I graded)
  • IF YOU REVISED THIS ASSIGNMENT FURTHER: Your revision of this essay based on my comments.
  • Your three field observations with media (NOTE--remember, these are not graded based on whether you completed them, not with an individual letter grade).
    • Your observation from a fixed standpoint
    • Your observation from a moving vantage point
    • Your soundwalk
  • Your initial draft of your Pandemic Paper with media
  • Your Pandemic Landscapes paper (revised based on peer review)
  • IF YOU REVISED THIS ASSIGNMENT FURTHER: Your Pandemic Landscapes paper revision based on my comments
  • Your Final Paper draft with media
  • Your Final Paper revision based on peer review
