Guest Lecture
Jason Cons: Delta Landscapes

Jason Cons will visit us in class and we will discuss his work on landscapes in Bangladesh.
This constitutes the first hour+ of the class this week.
The long version of the lecture is recorded as a video and the link is on the tab below.

Cons Talk

At the end of his talk, Jason talks about going along the embankments on a motorbike.

Here is the video:

Gabura's embankments

I have included an additional video that Jason and I made in 2020 about the process of researching landscape and space in Bangladesh.

In 2022 we are able to do this live.

However the conversation about how to go about research in fraught environments is interesting
and something to think about in your future work on space and landscape.

NB: It was during peak lock down, so our hair and appearance are worse than their usual poor standards. Please excuse this.

NEXT WEEK

We have no set readings for next week.

You are asked to find 1 reading from a journal article and answer the following questions:

What is the author trying to say?

How do they say or show it?

What does it say about space and power?

The topic is GENTRIFICATION

Use the google scholar skills we talked about earlier.
And/or start with the following journals:

International Journal of Urban and Regional Research (IJURR)
City and Society
Urban Studies
Environment and Planning D
Environment and Planning A
Urban Geography
Cities
Australian Geographer
Space and Culture
Space and Polity

Our class next week will be based on this material.

We will meet IN CLASS

And this CAN be used in your readings task in your portfolio.
